Meet the leadership team

Professor Andrew Shennan, OBE

Andrew Shennan is Professor of Obstetrics at King’s College London, based at St Thomas’ Hospital. He was Director of Research and Development for Guy's and St Thomas’ NHS Trust, National Chair of the NIHR Reproductive Health and Childbirth Specialty Group in the UK as well as Division 3 Regional Lead for South London prior to commencing his role as CRN Clinical Director.

He specialises in clinical trials in antenatal and intrapartum care. His research interests include interventions to predict and prevent preterm birth, pre-eclampsia, encourage normal birth and the use of blood pressure monitoring. His current research funding as applicant/co-applicant is over £10m, in more than 13 grants. He has published more than 50 articles in the last 24 months and over 300 peer reviewed research reports in total.

Dr Kosh Agarwal

Dr Kosh Agarwal is a Consultant Hepatologist and Transplant Physician at the Institute of Liver Studies, King’s College Hospital, London, and part of the team who deliver the largest liver transplant programme in Europe.

He is also Lead for the Viral Hepatitis Service, which is the largest treatment centre for viral hepatitis in the UK, and is responsible for two Hepatitis Operational Delivery Networks. In 2016, he won an 'NIHR at 10' award celebrating principal investigators who have contributed the highest patient numbers to commercial studies over the last ten years.

He is a current member of the national Clinical Reference Group for Hepatitis, he has contributed to several Department of Health and Social Care initiatives regarding Hepatitis and he acts as an advisor to the Hepatitis C Trust.

Dr James Lyddiard

James's career includes 19 years in clinical research and he has been working within the NIHR since it was established ten years ago.

Notably, in 2002 James worked to set up one of the regional cancer research networks as part of the National Cancer Research Network initiative, which latterly developed into a joint role that involved both covering the Network activities and being Head of Cancer Trials for UCLH managing UCL’s Experimental Cancer Medicine Centre.

Prior to joining CRN South London, James worked for 2 ½ years as the Chief Operating Officer for the CRN North Thames.

Dr Jane Beety

Jane gained a PhD in Nutritional Metabolism before joining the NHS. She developed and managed the cancer research portfolio in Norfolk prior to the establishment of the National Cancer Research Network, then set up Norfolk and Waveney Cancer Research Network in 2001.

In 2011, Jane moved to the CRN National Coordinating Centre as Children’s Cancer and Leukaemia Lead, and is now Head of Clinical Specialty Engagement Programme at the CRN focusing on supporting the National Specialty Leadership community.

Jane is taking Clare Meachin’s place as Deputy Chief Operating Officer on a six-month secondment.
