We provide core funding to support over 1000 trained research support staff in our network.
We have a prospective funding model. This means we base our funding allocations for the year on the preceding year’s study recruitment and annual projected spending. We regularly review studies and staff in post throughout the year and amend our funding according to need.
Consultant PAs
We offer funding to support research time in job plans for new consultants. If you have identified a research need in your area and are in the process of creating a new consultant post, talk to us to see how we can help.
What is on offer?
Up to two PAs (Programmed Activity) for a maximum of two years.
Which posts are eligible for this funding?
This funding is available for research PAs in new consultant posts.

Research Fellow funding
We offer funding to develop future Principal Investigators.
What’s on offer?
Funding to part-support dedicated Research Fellows in order to enhance and broaden NIHR study delivery is available. We also consider requests to fund up to 50% of a new Research Fellow appointment, where the hosting trust has agreed to provide the remainder of funding for the position.
Who can apply?
All trusts within the North Thames network can apply for this funding. Posts applied for can be for medics or relevant allied health professionals and must be in an area where there is a portfolio of non-commercial studies requiring support.
