Over the past 10 years the research field into the rare disease, Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD) has changed dramatically. 10 years ago there were no clinical trials available and patients who had the fatal disease were unlikely to reach their early twenties. Today there are over 10 clinical trials looking into DMD in Newcastle and the world leading John Walton Muscular Dystrophy Research Centre has been at the forefront of these research developments.
